Much of our lives, we find ourselves continuously surrounded by others. Five days a week, seven hours a day, students sit side by side with dozens of peers. Adults work long hours year after year among their co-workers. Friends go out, couples share a meal, families gather; humans crave company and companionship. Yet it is important to find a balance between our attention to others and attention to ourselves. I believe the moments we spend alone can bring us the greatest joy. We are able to develop hobbies and passions. We can solely think our own thoughts. We are unable to be influenced by others, thus are forced to be entirely ourselves.

I wanted to know among six people; some friends, some family, and some whom I had never spoken to before, what makes them happy when they are by themselves. Whether it is an activity or hobby, or a certain place they visit which fills them with happiness, the goal was to capture a variety of independent human interests that typically go unseen.
