I chose to mimic the style of Eliot Porter, an American nature photographer. I was strongly influenced by his fascination of the environment and the variety of wildlife we have on Earth. Porter followed his family’s path of going to Harvard, studying chemical engineering, and graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree, and later a medical degree. Eliot started off as a biochemical researcher at Harvard, but eventually went back to his love for photography. He began traveling the world to see new landscapes and birds, and was introduced to acclaimed photographers like Alfred Stieglitz and Ansel Adams. He gradually began taking a wider variety of photographs, including other woodland subjects, becoming the first established artist/photographer to commit to exploring the colorful diversity and beauty of the natural world. His biggest influence was the natural world around him, and the environmental crisis’ that were taking place. Plants, animals, and minerals fascinated Porter, and were the most present subjects in his work.
